Our practice began under the name of Chester County Herbs and Acupuncture when it first opened in 2001. From the beginning we were dedicated to bringing best practices to providing alternative and complementary medical care to our clients. The change to Oriental Medicine of West Chester with the move to our new offices builds on our dedication to our clients with expanded services such as Community Acupuncture and Qi gong classes.
Our logo is the I Ching hexagram #61 which represents Inner Truth. We chose this hexagram from the I Ching – or Book of Changes – as our logo because, in the words of the scholar Richard Wilhem it “indicates a heart free of prejudices and therefore open to the truth”.
In the introduction to his classic study of the I Ching, Richard Wilhelm wrote, “Nearly all that is greatest and most significant in the three thousand years of Chinese Cultural history has either taken its inspiration from this book, or has exerted an influence on the interpretation of its text. Therefore it may safely be said that the seasoned wisdom of thousands of years has gone into the making of the I Ching. Small wonder then that both of the two branches of Chinese philosophy, Confucianism and Taoism, have their common roots here.” The practice of medicine in China has always been closely linked to these ancient philosophies.
