|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until August 20, 2019

with Catherine Torhan

Catherine Torhan has been practicing Qigong and Tai Chi for more than 10 years. Her teachers include Teja Bell, Franz Moeckl, Sara Gelhorn and six grandmasters from the lineages of the six family styles of Tai Chi. She learned the Shibashi Tai Chi Qigong from Franz Moeckl.

Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi is an 18 form qigong exercise which incorporates several movements from Yang style Tai Chi Chuan.
Qi is the vital life force or energy that flows though us all. Qigong is the practice of cultivating this energy through a variety of gentle exercises, proper breathing techniques, self-applied massage, and meditation. Tai Chi, a form a qigong, is a martial art noted for gentle movements that are performed slowly and continuously.

Qigong promotes several physical and mental health benefits including:
• Increases breathing capacity
• Improves balance and coordination
• Improves flexibility
• Improves muscular strength
• Improves cardiovascular health
• Boosts the immune system
• Reduces stress
• Increases concentration and mindfulness

Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi is a calm, gentle, and beautiful form. Each movement is done slowly and repetitively in a standing posture. The movements are coordinated with the breath and involve the use of the entire body. Movements can be modified to meet an individual’s specific needs. While it is a wonderful introduction to the practices of qigong and tai chi, it is also embraced by experienced practitioners. Upon learning this form, it can be performed in less than 30 minutes and easily incorporated into a regular routine for health and well-being.
